View Biscayne Bay

Located near Miami, Biscayne Bay provides a great opportunity for shallow water sight casting.  Most of Biscayne Bay is in Biscayne National Park which offers protected clean waters.

Biscayne Bay Bonefish are large with ample
opportunities to catch 10 - 13lb bones.  The average Biscayne Bay bonefish is 7 pounds.  Permit fishing in Biscayne Bay is very good with 15 - 30 lb permit available.  In May and June tarpon migrate through Biscayne National Park providing a perfect opportunity for fly fishermen to sight cast big tarpon.  During the migration the tarpon average 90-110lbs.  Peak fishing months for Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon are in the spring and fall when the waters are warm but not hot.  There are opportunities to have a great fishing day in the winter as long as the water temperatures don't dip below 72 degrees.  When water temperatures dip below 72 degrees, barracuda are usually the only game species left on the flats.  In the hot summer months fishing the shallow flats for tailing fish is best early in the morning and then sight fishing for permit and bonefish on the deeper ocean side flats during the days peak heat is the usual tactic.  Please see the fish album or click on a species on this page for more seasonal information on each species.  Please see the accommodations page for lodging recommendations.
